Patio Stairs Properties
The properties used to modify Patio Stairs are located to
the right of the screen when your Patio Stairs are selected. These Patio Stairs
properties can either be adjusted right before adding the stairs to your
landscape or after they have been added. Below is a description of each
available Patio Stairs property in the order that they appear in the
software:

Description |
Material |
The Material property determines what type
of surface the patio stairs will use. To change the material, click the
small image that displays the current material. |
Material options |
The appearance of the patio stairs can be modified by
clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material
image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the stair material. For example, if the stairs have a brick material, then
the Size slider will adjust the size of each brick. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the stair material. To change the material angle, move the Angle
slider or type a value in the text field. |
Offset X |
The Offset X property determines the stair
material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the stair
material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward
or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Shininess |
The Shininess property determines how glossy the
material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the
Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options:
Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects
the appearance of the material while in the 3D view. |
Enable enhanced surface detail |
The Enable enhanced surface detail property
determines whether or not the stair material will have increased detail
when viewed up close. |

Type |
The Type property determines whether the tread
will be flat, bullnose, seamless, or rough cut. |
Height |
The Height property determines the tread
height. |
Max rise |
The Max rise property determines the
vertical distance from one step to the next. To change the rise, move the
Max rise slider or enter a value in the text field. |
Tread run |
The Tread run property determines the
length of each step. To change the step length, move the Tread run slider
or enter a value in the text field. |
Elevation |
The Elevation property determines the
distance of the patio stairs from the ground. To change the elevation,
move the Elevation slider or type a value in the text field. |
Auto-calculate total rise |
The Auto-calculate total rise
property determines whether the patio stairs will automatically continue
until they reach the ground. To toggle the state of the patio stairs,
click the Auto-calculate total rise checkbox. |
Total rise |
The Total rise property determines
the distance from the top step to the bottom step. This option is only
available when the Auto-calculate total rise option
is not checked. To change the total rise, move the Total rise slider or
enter a value in the text field. |
Closed |
The Closed property determines whether the
patio stairs shape is open or closed. To toggle the state of the patio
stairs shape, click the Closed checkbox |
Switch sides |
The Switch sides property can be
checked to reverse the direction that the steps run. |
Edit points |
Click the Edit points button to
enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the
patio stairs shape. See Editing Points
for details. |
Shape options |
Click the Shape Options button to save the
shape of the patio stairs, or to load an existing shape. For more details,
see Saving and Loading
Shapes. |
Tread |
Description |
Use default material |
The Use default material property determines
whether the step tread will use the primary material or a different
material specified by you. |
Tread |
The Tread property determines what type of
surface is applied to the stair tread. To change the tread surface, click
the small image that displays the current material. |

The appearance of the tread material can be
modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the
material image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the tread material. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the tread material. To change the material angle, move the Angle
slider or type a value in the text field. |

The Offset X property determines the tread
material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the tread
material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward
or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Shininess |
The Shininess property determines how glossy the
material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the
Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options:
Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects
the appearance of the material while in the 3D view. |
Enable enhanced surface detail |
The Enable enhanced surface detail property
determines whether or not the tread material will have increased detail
when viewed up close. |
Riser |
Description |
Use default material |
The Use default material property determines
whether the step riser will use the primary material or a different
material specified by you. To enable selection of a separate riser
material, click the Use same material as deck checkbox. |
Riser material |
The Riser material property determines what
type of surface is applied to the stair riser. To change the riser
surface, click the small image that displays the current
material. |
Material options |
The appearance of the riser can be modified by
clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material
image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the riser material. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the riser material. To change the material angle, move the Angle
slider or type a value in the text field. |

The Offset X property determines the riser
material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the riser
material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward
or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
