Deck Stairs Properties
The properties used to modify deck stairs are located to
the right of the screen when your deck stairs are selected. These deck stairs
properties can either be adjusted right before adding the deck stairs to a deck
or after it has been added. Below is a description of each available deck stairs
property in the order that they appear in the software:

Description |
Total width |
The Total width property determines
the distance of the deck stairs from one end to the other. To change the
stair width, move the Total width slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Max rise |
The Max rise property determines the
vertical distance from one step to the next. To change the rise, move the
Max rise slider or enter a value in the text field. |
Tread run |
The Tread run property determines the
length of each step. To change the step length, move the Tread run slider
or enter a value in the text field. |
Auto-calculate height |
The Auto-calculate height property
determines whether the deck stairs will automatically continue until they
reach the ground. This option should be unchecked when working with
multilevel decks. To toggle the state of the deck stairs, click the
Auto-calculate height checkbox. |
Total height |
The Total height property determines
the distance from the bottom step to the surface of the deck that the
stairs are attached to. To change the height of the deck stairs, move the
Total height slider or enter a value in the text field. This option is not
available unless the Auto-calculate height option is
disabled. |
Left railing |
The Left railing property determines
whether a handrail is added to the left side of the deck stairs. To toggle
the left handrail, click the Left railing checkbox. |
Right railing |
The Right railing property determines
whether a handrail is added to the right side of the deck stairs. To
toggle the right handrail, click the Right railing checkbox. |
Add skirting |
The Add skirting property determines whether
a lattice is added between the ground and the bottom of the deck stairs
frame. To toggle the appearance of the skirting, click the Add skirting
checkbox. Skirting will not appear on the deck stairs unless it is enabled
on deck object they are attached to. |
Add round nosing |
The Add round nosing property determines
whether the front of each stair step is rounded or flat. To toggle the
smoothness of the front of each step, click the Add round nosing
checkbox. |
Tread |
Description |
Use same material as deck |
The Use same material as deck property
determines whether the step tread will use the primary deck material or a
different material specified by you. To enable selection of a separate
tread material, click the Use same material as deck checkbox. |
Tread material |
The Tread material property determines what
type of surface is applied to the stair tread. To change the tread
surface, click the small image that displays the current
material. |
Material options |
The appearance of the tread material can be
modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the
material image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the tread material. For example, if the tread has a wooden board material,
then the Size slider will adjust the size of each board. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the tread material. To change the material angle, move the Angle
slider or type a value in the text field. |
Offset X |
The Offset X property determines the tread
material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the tread
material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward
or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Shininess |
The Shininess property determines how glossy the
material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the
Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options:
Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects
the appearance of the material while in the 3D view. |
Enable enhanced surface detail |
The Enable enhanced surface detail property
determines whether or not the tread material will have increased detail
when viewed up close. |
Hide gaps between boards |
The Hide gaps between boards property
determines whether a virtual gap will be shown between the stock wooden
materials that are included with the software. If a material outside of
the “Deck and Fence” category is chosen, then gaps can not be shown. To
toggle the appearance of the gaps, click the Hide gaps between boards
checkbox. |
Riser |
Description |
Use same material as deck |
The Use same material as deck property
determines whether the step riser will use the primary deck material or a
different material specified by you. To enable selection of a separate
riser material, click the Use same material as deck checkbox. |
Riser material |
The Riser material property determines what
type of surface is applied to the stair riser. To change the riser
surface, click the small image that displays the current
material. |
Material options |
The appearance of the riser can be modified by
clicking the small button that appears to the right of the material
image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the riser material. For example, if the riser has a wooden board material,
then the Size slider will adjust the size of each board. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the riser material. To change the material angle, move the Angle
slider or type a value in the text field. |
Offset X |
The Offset X property determines the riser
material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the riser
material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material forward
or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Shininess |
The Shininess property determines how glossy the
material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the
Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options:
Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects
