Retaining Wall Properties
The properties used to modify a Retaining Wall are located
to the right of the screen when your Retaining Wall is selected. These Retaining
Wall properties can either be adjusted right before adding the wall to your
landscape or after is has been added. Below is a description of each available
Retaining Wall property in the order that they appear in the software:
Cap Material |
Description |
Custom appearance in each view |
The Custom appearance in
each view option determines whether the retaining wall will
appear differently in the Plan view than in the Perspective view. If this
option is unchecked, the retaining wall will appear the same in both
views. |
Plan |
The Plan tab contains properties that affect the
appearance of the retaining wall in the Plan view. This tab will not be
available unless the Custom appearance in each view option is
checked. |
Perspective |
The Perspective tab contains properties that
affect the appearance of the retaining wall in the Perspective view. This
tab will not be available unless the Custom appearance
in each view option is checked. |
Material |
The Material property determines what type of
surface the retaining wall cap will use. To change the material, click the
small image that displays the current material. |
Material options |
The appearance of the retaining wall cap can be
modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the
material image. |
Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the retaining wall cap material. For example, if the cap has a brick
material, then the Size slider will adjust the size of each brick. Note
that the Size slider has no effect on solid color or gradient
materials. |
Angle |
The Angle property determines the rotation angle
of the retaining wall material. To change the material angle, move
the Angle slider or type a value in the text field. |
Offset X |
The Offset X property determines the retaining
wall material’s left and right orientation. To shift the material left or
right, move the Offset X slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Offset Y |
The Offset Y property determines the retaining
wall material’s forward and backward orientation. To shift the material
forward or backward, move the Offset Y slider or enter a value in the text
field. |
Shininess |
The Shininess property determines how glossy the
material will appear. To change the appearance of the material, click the
Shininess drop-down menu and select from the following options:
Default, Off, Low, Medium, or High. The shininess property only affects
the appearance of the material while in the 3D view. |
Enable enhanced surface detail |
The Enable enhanced surface detail property
determines whether or not the retaining wall will have increased detail
when viewed up close. |
Transparency |
The Transparency property determines the
opacity of the retaining wall in the Plan view. To change the retaining
wall opacity, move the Transparency slider or type a value in the text
field. Note that the Transparency property is only available when the
Custom appearance in each view option is checked. |
Line style |
The Line Style property determines the
appearance of the outline of the retaining wall in the Plan view. To
change the line style, click the Line Style button and select the
style you wish to use from the dialog that appears. Note that a line style
is only available when the Custom appearance in each view option is
checked. |
Type |
The Type property determines the shape and style
of the retaining wall cap. To change the shape of the cap, click the Type
drop-down menu and select Bullnose, Seamless, Flat, rough cut, or
None. |
Height |
The Height property determines how tall the
retaining wall cap is. To enlarge or decrease the cap’s size, move the
Height slider or type a value in the text field. |
Overhang |
The Overhang property determines how far the
retaining wall cap extends from the retaining wall. To adjust the cap
extension, move the Overhang slider or type a value in the text
field. |

The Wall Material property determines
what type of surface the retaining wall will use. To change the material,
click the small image that displays the current material. |

The appearance of the retaining wall can be
modified by clicking the small button that appears to the right of the

Size |
The Size property determines the scale of
the wall material. For example, if the wall has a brick material, then the
Size slider will adjust the size of each brick. |

Description |
Elevation |
The Elevation property determines the
distance of the retaining wall from the ground. To change the elevation,
move the Elevation slider or type a value in the text field. |
Width |
The Width property determines how thick the
retaining wall is. To change the retaining wall width, move the Width
slider or enter a value in the text field. |
Closed |
The Closed property determines whether the
retaining wall’s shape is open or closed. To change the state of the
retaining wall’s shape, click the Closed checkbox to toggle it. |
Switch sides |
The Switch sides property determines on
which side of the defining line the retaining wall is created. To change
the placement of the retaining wall, click the Switch sides
checkbox. |
Stepped |
The Stepped property determines if the
retaining wall top will be stepped or curved. When Stepped is enabled, the
height of each segment can be controlled by editing the height at the
adjacent point. When Stepped is disabled, the wall height will curve
smoothly between the points. |
Auto wall height |
The Auto wall height property determines
whether the retaining wall’s height is automatically set to match the
surrounding terrain. To toggle the automatic height of the retaining wall,
click the Auto wall height checkbox.
If the Stepped property is enabled, the Auto wall
height checkbox will not be accessible. |
Edit points |
Click the Edit points button to
enable or disable point editing mode, which will allow you to modify the
retaining wall’s shape. See Editing
Points for details. |
Shape options |
Click the Shape Options button to save the
shape of the retaining wall, or to load an existing shape. For more
details, see Saving and Loading
Shapes. |
Height |
The Height property determines how tall the
retaining wall is. To adjust the retaining wall’s height, move the Height
slider or type a value in the text field. |
Cut Terrain |
Description |
Cut terrain |
When the Cut terrain option is
checked, the Retaining Wall will cut off the terrain to one side of the
wall, effectively leveling the terrain on that side. |
Reverse cut direction |
When the Cut terrain option is
checked, the Reverse cut direction option can be used
to switch the direction of the Retaining Wall’s cut. |
Cut distance |
Adjusts how far the terrain is cut relative to the
Retaining Wall outline. |
Edit Cut Angles |
Toggles Cut Angle editing mode. When enabled, you
can change the cut angles at the start and end points by dragging the blue
handles. |

Description |
Length |
The Length property displays the total
distance, in feet or meters, from the start of the retaining wall to the
finish. |
